Cat Furniture

Cat furniture is the best thing you can buy for your kitten if you want to reclaim and / or save your furniture. After all, doesn’t all the furniture in your / her home belong to kitty? Kittens are harder on human furniture than adult cats. Their constant flexing and scratching can damage and even ruin your bedding, chairs, sofas, carpets, wallpaper and cupboards. By getting cat furniture for kitty, you not only reclaim your furniture, but also save it.

Great, you say, but what kind of cat furniture should I be looking for? The basics are sleeping arrangements, exercise, and having to transport kitty. Then there are the nice extras like cat flaps / doors, cat enclosures for outside use, cat perches and so on.

Cat Beds

The first question to ask yourself is whether you will allow your kitty cat to sleep with you or not. If you only have one cat, it might be ok but if you plan to have several cats sharing a bed with you may result in you losing sleep. If you decide it is better for kitty to sleep on her own, the size and location of her bed are things to consider, particularly if you have more than one cat. Will it be a bed or a condo unit? Will she sleep in the hallway, living room, or in a bed room? These are the things you need to consider when it comes to a cat bed and sleeping location.

Exercise Equipment

Exercise equipment may sound strange for cat furniture, but the best piece of exercise equipment will be a scratching post or two. By getting kitty to use the scratching post to flex and sharpen her claws, you can add years to the life of your furnishings. Another piece of exercise equipment to consider is a cat tree or cat perch. Cats love climbing and like to be high up to watch what is going on.

Cat Carriers

A cat cage or cat carrier is a necessity for transporting kitty. You will need one for taking your feline to the vet, traveling to your vacation home, and transporting her by plane or train. Allowing kitty to roam freely in a car while it is moving is hazardous, particularly if she interferes with the operation of the vehicle by distracting the driver or getting under the gas and brake pedals in the car. Make sure the cat carrier / cat cage is not too small for kitty.

Cat Door / Flap

Is your kitty an indoor only cat or an indoor / outdoor cat? If she is going to be an outdoor cat as well, you may want to add a cat door or cat flap to your list of cat furniture. Installing one of these will ensure you don’t have to open the door at 5 am to let her go out or come in while you are trying to sleep.

Cat Enclosure

A cat enclosure is outdoor furniture to consider if you want kitty to experience the great out doors life but also want to make sure she doesn’t wander off or climb every tree in your yard.

Although all these suggestions may not be necessary, some cat furniture like the scratching post, cat beds and cat door can be very beneficial to your life and to your furniture’s life.
